Reading: We are doing daily reading comprehension activities as well as a reading comprehension test on Thursdays. We have daily silent reading time. We are currently reading Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief as a class read alound. The students are really enjoying it and cannot wait to watch the movie.

Writing: We are currently working on our poetry unit which has the students write a variety of poems including couplets, similies, colour poems, 5 senses poems, I used to ... but now poems, I wish poems and If I were...I would poems. The students have been very creative and are writing wonderful poems with great description and detail.

We will also be doing a variety of punctuation and grammar activities throughout the year.

Weekly Spelling

New spelling words are handed out every Monday. The students vote on the ten words that they would like to be counted for marks every Monday morning. The circled words are the top ten words that were voted for and will be counted for marks. The remaining eight words are bonus words and student will recieve one superkid for every bonus word they spell correctly. Spelling tests are held Friday Morning. Student also have a spelling skills booklet that they work on throughout the week.

Home readng goals are set each Monday and student have until the following Monday to complete thier goal. If they meet thier goal they get 1 draw ticket, if they pass it they get 2 draw tickets. The draw is done Monday morning. Students also have thier own home reading chart where they put up a sticker for every hundred minutes they read. Every 600 minutes they will recieve a prize.
